Attachment: Attachments001.BHX ********************************************************** ********************************************************** From muguet at mdpi.net Wed Aug 23 01:24:12 2006 From: muguet at mdpi.net (Dr. Francis MUGUET) Date: Wed Aug 23 01:39:57 2006 Subject: [Wsis-pct] IGF workshop proposal deadline Message-ID: <44EB921C.1080208@mdpi.net> Dear friends All these deadlines in August are very inconvenient. Time has elapsed very quickly. The 24, IGF workshop proposal deadline is the day after tomorrow. So we must take a decision very quickly, may be sending a short proposal on August 24, to be completed later in September. I suggest that the PCT group should propose an IGF workshop entitled "Free Software, Interoperability and Access" This could be related to both theme 1 and 4 of the IGF. Free Software should be presented as the quasi unavoidable building block of the Internet. Of course, other ideas are welcome. I am not on vacations, but my health problem with my wrist has severely increased during the last two days, and I am suffering a lot and I cannot type anything long, so I hope that Georg and others could write a more consistend proposal. Another aspect is the Semantic Web gTLDs, see http://semantic.cc I believe it might be worthwhile to include this topic in a workshop proposal entitled "Semantic Web, Digital Identifiers, RFIDs, emerging issues of the Internet" as related to theme 4. Identifiers as I mnetionned sometimes ago http://www.wsis-si.org/DOI/index.html are a serious threat to freedom, and combined with RFIDs, with ONS or DOI, even more so. This Workshop might be proposed in the name of the PCT group and/or other groups and the FreeW3 coalition http://freeW3.org ( for which I did not have much time recently to spend on it ) and to whom everybody is welcome to join. Again, for this second propsosal, I can only envision a schematic proposal by the deadline, to be completed later.
